Homeschooling On The Go Without Passports has come to an end for us. We finally stopped dragging our feet and sent off for their passport books. Here’s to new adventures with the bees.
The kids have been to a few countries without a passport. How? One way is via driving and the other is with cruising. I know that cruises have always said you need a passport but if you are a U.S. citizen and leave from a U.S. port, you are fine with an I.D. card. Do the kids have I.D. cards? No. We would always take their birth certificates and they were good enough.

Where have the bees been?
- Puerto Rico (although it is a U.S. territory)
- St. Croix
- St. Maarten (both the French and Dutch sides)
- St. Lucia
I am actually surprised at how many people don’t have passports. With that said, I want to tell you how easy it was to get ours completed and sent off. A month and a half ago, I stopped by the Post Office (the only way to get them where I live) and asked for an appointment.
Before I left, I took with me the 3 applications needed for the kids. I would say that I filled them out a home but I didn’t. I waited until the last possible minute and filled them out in the car in the parking lot before our appointment. As a result of my laziness, I caused the woman to be slightly irritated with me.
I also waited until the morning of to have their photos taken for it. Since I am a photographer, this is where I differ from most people. I took the photos of the kids, resized and cropped them to the 2″ x 2″ size needed. I wanted to try it myself but if I failed the Post Office would have done them for us. Also, any 1-Hour photo lab will do them for you – CVS, Walgreens, etc.
I have finally stopped dragging my feet. I had to laugh this morning when they kept asking when she was going to hand the books over already. They didn’t realize that the paperwork is sent off to Texas to be processed and reviewed.
So what’s next for the bees? The baby (KB) has asked to go to Paris for her birthday. Rea asked for Hawaii or Alaska. She didn’t care that they were states, she just wants to go there. And Bubba has asked for Paris, Hawaii, India, Costa Rica, and Peru. Cheers.
