Happiness Is Surviving Hurricane Matthew. I know it sounds very silly to say, but all of us on the East Coast (and Central Florida) are very blessed. There were very minimal fatalities with Hurricane Matthew, unlike in the Caribbean (mostly Haiti).
The bees and I rode out the storm. We were under a mandatory evacuation but I knew the water surge levels and I knew we would be good. Prior to its arrival, we loaded up on groceries and water. I prepped the generator and filled up the cars.
The bees and I survived our first hurricane together. Our house survived and was completely intact. I don’t even think the pine straw in the flower beds moved. How odd!
I put a lot of thanks to our French Drains. Two years ago we had them installed throughout half of our property. It was to improve the mush for grass, but it saved us a lot agony I am sure.
We never lost power or water service. Our cable went out but it was back on fairly quickly. In our entire city, our neighborhood and one other were the only two in the entire county that didn’t lose power at all. Craziness.
So yes, happiness is surviving Hurricane Matthew and having no issues to deal with. My moms property on the other hand needs some work. My dad’s property lost a rather large oak tree. Overall, my family was blessed.
Thanks to all the lineman out there right now restoring power. Thanks to the police, firefighters, ems, hospital personnel, national guard, news reporters, and city officials for the hard work. They slept in 30 minutes to 1 hour shifts. Some didn’t sleep at all. They were out there when it was really nasty. I just sat with my phone and watched the live streams. Thank You.
If you were affected by the storm, prayers are going out to you. For me, Happiness Is Surviving Hurricane Matthew.
