The Bees and I love the library. It’s one of our favorite places to go to. While we enjoy the library for many reasons we have our favorite “Five Things To Do at the Library”!
1- Read! This one seems like a no-brainer but it’s true. The Bees and I will run our fingers across the book spines as we walk into the children’s section. They each find a book they want to read and we find a spot on the floor amongst the bookshelves. The older two could sit there for an hour reading. KB, the youngest, isn’t a fan of sitting for that long unless she can pull the books off the shelf herself. We usually move on when she gets into librarian mode.
2- Computers! My Bees have access to a computer, tablet, and a game system at the house. They have plenty of screen time when compared to some kids and minimal compared to others. However, the computers at the library are just more fun. They will log into the library system to get assigned a computer and their computer time starts. Bubba and Rea usually play this game, Roblox, together but at different computer stations. When a new kid gets on the computer, Bubba will introduce him to Roblox and they all play each other virtually. If someone doesn’t understand how to play, he will take away time from his own allotment to teach his new friend.
3- The Librarians. The men and women who work or volunteer at the library are more than just someone who scans your books. I absolutely love talking to our librarians. They will help me find a book that they think I will like based off the books I have been checking out. I enjoy talking to them about kid events, homeschooling, banned books, and general education of children today. They are always happy and smiling.
4- The Library Events. Each month the library puts out a calendar of events. It will include various fun things for the kids to enjoy, such as Lego Building, STEM activities, story time, etc. There are plenty of adult classes and events as well. My goal is to attend one adult class a month but I have been slacking.
5- Summer Lunch Program. Many people in the community around their local library don’t know that’s they hold summer lunch programs. They are completely free for the kids and are usually provided by food banks like Second Harvest. “I can avoid lunch so why go?” I went because it was a great way for the Bees to meet other kids. Many of them ended up laughing and having a good time together.
Everyone has their favorite things to do at the Library. These were just our Five Favorite Things to do at the Library. Maybe the Bees and I will see you there soon.
