Family Time with Game Night has brought our family closer than ever. Marty started a few months back buying uncommon board games. Every week we would have new games delivered to the door. He even bought card games. At first I was annoyed by all the spending on games. I thought it was dumb.
I has been anything but dumb. We take the card games with us when we go out to dinner. It’s a lot of fun to sit at the table for hours, playing. Please note we usually do this at McAllister’s Deli so we are not taking away from a waitress and her potential income. The kids love the card games.
Our favorite family card games are Starfluxx, Guillotine, SushiGo. Rea loves SushiGo. She ends up collecting all the “puddings”. It’s a cute game but it’s not joke. I can be ruthless and cut throat.
As for the board games. It’s hard to just tell about a few favorites. Marty really has gone out of his way to get us games we love. Our current favorites are Tsuro, Tsuro of the Seas, Sheriff of Nottingham, Castle Panic, Smash Up, Wits and Wagers, Ticket to Ride, and Say Anything. I really enjoyed Ticket to Ride. You have to build your rail lines and create routes before the first person has no more train cars. Tsuro and Tsuro of the Seas make you make your opponent lose even if you don’t want to. I feel bad when I makes one of the bees lose. Sheriff of Nottingham causes some serious evil eyes between Marty and I.
So why the board and card games? Well it brings us closer as a family. My kids enjoy sitting down with us to play. They don’t care that they aren’t in front of some electronic. We laugh and build stronger family bonds. I wish I would have been doing this a long time ago with the kids instead of just recently. My hope is that these games will be the memories the kids grow to love and want to share with their kids.
