DAY ONE of the series – 10 Days of Homeschooling On The Go!!
Welcome to Day One of the July ‘Homeschool Series’ – 10 Days of Homeschooling On The Go. I am writing this just fresh off of a trip to the lake for the weekend. I have curriculum stacked everywhere and a planner that needs to be filled in with details. It’s currently 85 degrees outside with 79% humidity and a real feel of 96. It’s late in the evening, oh and I have the space heater running. Why? I think I caught a cold from the 60 degree temp of the hotel air conditioning.
This trip was to hang out with my cousins and celebrate a birthday while catching up. I love being able to go to Lake Lanier in the summer. The water is nice. The ‘bees’ get to do things they can’t at the house like – run up and down hills, hike in the woods (alone), visit the horses, pet chickens, do flips off of the floating dock, go tubing with someone other than their siblings, catch fireflies, see stars without light pollution, ride atv’s, etc. In my opinion, they get to be kids.
While that may just seem like vacation fun, they learn so much through it all. This was the first trip we have went on that I haven’t taken curriculum or some type of work for them. Bubba did take his two library books but that was because they are due immediately and he wanted to read them. He read in the car only and that was when he wasn’t playing on his iPad.
I guess you can say the kids learned about life.
They learned how to read GPS coordinates while geocaching. The girls (and myself) had a lesson on snakes, barn cats, and coyotes from the sweet farmer near by. They learned a thing or two in physics when it came to slides/gravity/water/personal weight. For the first time in a while, I didn’t have to be the sole teacher. My family was so gracious to spend time with them. They poured in to them and loved on all of the ‘bees’.
I love homeschooling on the go. It’s why I decided to team up with other fabulous bloggers and bring you our 10 Day Series. This month is 10 Days of Homeschooling. As we go through the next 9 days, I would love for you to stop by and see how I do homeschooling on the go. We travel quite frequently and we can’t take all the days off from school. I find ways to incorporate where we are in our studies. If they have zero to do with our trip, then we add fun learning along the way.
You don’t have to homeschool to teach your kids while you are vacationing over the summer or winter holiday. Check back tomorrow for how I organize all their curriculum and books for the road.
